Seminar:
Michelle Lindlar from the European project DURAARK will present the projects best practice research results on the structuring of architectural 3D data to facilitate the interpretation and interoperability with similar data resources and its curation and long-term preservation for research.
The presentation relates to: standards for architectural 3D data, long-term preservation of research data, and data interoperability. During this session LIBIS and the Digital Lab of KU Leuven will also present their services for researchers. This seminar is offered by LIBIS. The language of this seminar is English.
Abstract:
While the majority of data associated with a building is created during the design-to-construction phase, this data is later queried and extended by building owners and facility managers while the building is "in-use". Furthermore, even past the actual lifecycle of a building its data may remain of interest to research and cultural heritage. With the present day planning-to-construction process being a predominantly digital one, long-term availability and interpretability of architectural 3D data requires robust curation and preservation processes. The DURAARK project (2013-2016) is currently developing methods and tools to support this need. Michelle Lindlar is a digital preservation analyst at TIB – the German National Library of Science and Technology. Her main research interest is the alignment of technical and organizational processes and methods for the long-term usability and interpretability of technical information with a focus on complex objects. Within the DURAARK project she leads the Digital Preservation work package. The emphasis will be on practical applicability.
