Europeana Space technical workshop [23th of March 2015, Brussels]

The Europeana Space project, in which KU Leuven and LIBIS are a partner, is establishing a Technical Space as a framework for storing, accessing and processing cultural heritage content and metadata. Based upon IPR licensing, curators, scholars, professional users and developers will be able to search for and manage resources within a safe space, to use and re-use them for the evolution of knowledge and the development of applications.

In this technical workshop the architecture and implementation choices for the Technical Space will be presented, specifically:
  • The Data Infrastructure that includes the retrieval and storage layers for content and metadata from available sources.
  • The Metadata Processing Unit that integrates available services for the management and manipulation of metadata resources.
  • The Access APIs that constitute a set of interfaces that will be made available for the delivery of resources and the creation of applications.
The workshop will allow participants to learn more and experiment with the Europeana Labs, presented and coordinated by Europeana Foundation representatives.

CIVIC Epistemologies - Workshop on the Roadmap [20 februari 2015, KU Leuven]

Help us develop a roadmap on innovative citizen engagement in the CH institutions context

The Civic Epistemologies project launched an online questionnaire on citizen science. LIBIS and MediaLab Institute for Cultural Studies are a partner in this project (more info).

Citizen Science is the practice of involving citizens in research driven by professional researchers; nowadays it benefits from technological tools which allow to achieve unprecedented scale of citizen engagement. One of its forms is crowdsourcing which might not aim research contribution but helps in gathering, encoding or contextualising data with the help of citizens.

Civic Epistemologies has the objective to consolidate a roadmap on the use of e-Infrastructures to support the participation of European citizens in research on cultural heritage and digital humanities. The questionnaire is designed to capture the current experiences and opinions of cultural heritage professionals and we would appreciate if you could invest up to 10 minutes of your time to help us understand better the current context and integrate your point of view in the Roadmap.

Please follow this link to the questionnaire:
